Werewolf
One of the most popular and terrifying mythological creatures is the werewolf! According to folklore, the werewolf is a creature that has shapeshifting abilities.
This creature is able to transform from human into a wolf, and this change usually happens on the night of a full moon. The true origin of the werewolf is unknown, but it is speculated that the earliest example comes from the Epic of Gilgamesh (2,100 B.C.E.)
The myths of the werewolf that we know and love today however, have most likely originated in Ancient Greek & Roman ethnography and scripts. Shapeshifting, unnatural speed, strength, endurance, wall crawling and immortality are common attributes of the werewolf.
Werewolves will always be some of the strongest supernatural creatures to ever exist and some legends say that they have the power and strength to easily lift 60 tons! Fun fact: In the 1700s, southern France fell under siege by a werewolf epidemic. Over 100 people were killed by a herd of creatures named the "Beasts of Gevaudan". The French Army was called in to fight this monstrous threat, although many suspected the bloodlust was carried out by dog-wolf hybrids!
