Vampire
Vampire ~ Blood Suckers of the Night
Vampires, the blood suckers of the night! Vampires are terrifying creatures that originated long, long ago in folklore from Eastern Europe. Our common depiction of a Vampire or Vampyre includes a horrific looking undead man or woman who has long sharp fangs as teeth, usually wearing a cape and could possibly have glowing eyes! Vampires use humans as prey, and need to feed on humans for sustenance by consuming their blood. These wicked creatures generally live forever and do not age. Vampires also have a long time association with bats. Their eyes can put you in a trance and hypnotize you into following their commands. The only proper way to kill these creatures is a stake through the heart, and as told for many years - vampires hate garlic so be sure to use that to ward them off.
Myths of the vampire include tales of how when vampires were out and about they would cause chaos and destruction through their neighborhoods; and chaos sometimes even resulting in death. Majority of the stories of vampires were spread through Europe and once the tales of the Vampire reached Germany & England they were highly popularized in Gothic literature. Gothic horror novels like Bram Stoker’s Dracula have contributed to our modern day depiction of these blood sucking creatures.
The name “Dracula” is said to have originated in Eastern Europe as it was the family name of Vlad the Impaler! Another name to mention is Elizabeth Bathory. She was a suspected vampire countess and was believed to have murdered many young women and taken their blood and used it for her own vitality. Being so mysterious and supernatural it is not a surprise why the Vampire has been such a popular folkloric topic for hundreds of years. The vampire will always be one of the most dominant figures in modern culture and the horror genre. Are you afraid of vampires?
