Kappa

Koopa or Kappa? Super Mario? Japanese Mythology?!

Kappa is a water demon in Japanese folklore. These devious creatures will lure you into the water and with their vampiric tendencies they try to suck your blood! Terrifying, but if you can recognize a Kappa you can remain safe...usually. Kappa have a bowl like shape on top of their heads and its filled with water. Their head is their power source. If you see a Kappa and bow as a sign of respect it will bow back to you and the water will fall from its head therefore draining the power of the Kappa! Kappas are usually depicted as green human like beings with turtle shell backs. Kappas are addicted to cucumbers and they are easily bribed with them. Some tales suggest that Kappas are woman eaters! Another interesting fact is that Koopa characters featured in Super Mario games are actually a spinoff of the Kappa!
