Isis

Isis is one of the most popular and recognizable goddesses in all of Ancient Egyptian history. Isis has a unique story. She comes from the original 9 god ancient Egyptian pantheon called the: Ennead. Isis is the granddaughter of Ra, and she is also the wife & sister of the powerful Osiris. The Egyptian pantheon is one that may seem a little odd considering the circumstances of how the gods and humans came to be, but hear me out!

Isis is the daughter of Nut (sky goddess) and Geb (earth god). Ra, the original Pharoah forbade Nut & Geb from having children, but they did not listen. Isis and her siblings were born. Isis became a prominent figure in mythology as she had healing abilities, magic abilities and she was able to bring back her husband Osiris from the dead. She brought him back from the dead after the envious god of darkness (Set) killed him. She was able to conceive a child during this time and therefore she is the mother of the well known god Horus. Horus would later go on to rule only after avenging his father Osiris's death.

She cried so much at her husband's death that she is responsible for the rising waters - even to this day. She is also said to have created the first ever cobra who would one day get Ra to reveal his true name. Because of her being able to bring the dead to life, become pregnant in such an odd circumstance, cause water to rise, create new creatures - this is why she is seen as a goddess of healing, fertility, and magic. In some cases she also is associated with the moon. She is a respected goddess depicted with feathers spread wide open as her signature look. She was a mother figure, who was worshipped in Ancient Egypt as a symbol of protection and good luck. Isis was called upon and worshipped by Ancient egyptians who were in need of help and sanctuary. Fun fact: singer Rhianna has a tattoo of Isis across her chest. @badgalriri
